That one might also be hard to understand..
Okay, it's a toast with jam, and it's the jam that talks -- saying that it basically learned to fall of its stomach rather than back from the guy's cat called Murphy...because of Murphy's Law..see...?

I like this one but the other cartoonists thought it was too complex--like the toast one next to it.
Here, the rat is the one making the announcement.
The 'gag' is supposed to be that while MTA is setting up this announcement system at long last it's not working super well and it still has loads of rats all over its tracks, who know when the trains are actually coming...
Too complex, see...

Note: while it's based on personal observations, this is not fully autobiographical/representative of my recent/current experience. Just to be clear with respect to those I have, heum, "reached out" to -- most of whom have been very helpful.
My very first submissions (and rejections) to the New Yorker
These are some of the cartoons i got to show to Bob Mankoff, the New Yorker's cartoon editor, on January 3rd, 2012, for the 1st time. We had a good chat, his feedback was that my graphic style was "too European" (his words--he meant too weird faces, feet...) for the New Yorker but that i could keep submitting if i toned it down. Then I and the other cartoonists who were there went out for a 2-hour lunch ending with cognac, a tradition that has apparently been going on for 6 or 7 years. It was great. I showed my cartoons to cartoonists like Sam Gross, Mort Gerber, Sydney Harris...
Bob Mankoff sees over 500 submissions per week, runs a selection by the Editor David Remnick and they end up picking about 10. Some cartoonists have been submitting for years without ever publishing one. Those who "sell" one may do so once or twice a year - others more. Many cartoonists give up after their 1st meeting with Bob Mankoff.
I will submit more cartoons, which i will then post here after they are rejected...but i need to tone down that “European style” for the purposes of the New Yorker..

Yes i got my O1 visa! What does this mean? Well in January i filed a petition, with 25 letters and a 500-page portfolio, not kidding, to the US immigration to switch from a G4 (=UN) status to an O1 status as an (...) “Cartoonist-Economist” (this was my lawyer’s idea). O1 visas are for foreigners with an “extraordinary ability” in any field including the arts, research, business, sports even--Dirk Nowitzki has one for instance. The nice thing is that they are granted for 3 years and can be renewed indefinitely and allow you to work for any company/project in your field(s) of “extraordinary ability”. So yes, this is good news. Voilà!
